Online, self-study Certificate Program. Available everywhere.

Trading can be taught – plain and simple. There are far too many traders out there who consistently make money. Some trade more than one type of security too, however, most are specialists.

Getting Started in your Commodity Career at UCLA is an online, self-study Certificate Program that will provide you with some insight to what these traders had to commit to in order to consistently make money. IMHO, it’s not genetics that makes a trader. It’s a set of measurable habits (not rituals) that create measurable results.

It will introduce to you what I’ve been able to put together for your benefit at UCLA Extension. When I started trading, there was no internet, twitter, LinkedIn, nor any way to share ideas with my peers. I didn’t even know who my peers were for the most part, beyond what I could see right in front of me. Now we are creating a community of traders through UCLA.

To be a successful trader, you need knowledge. But you also need a sense of who you are. Some call this “emotional intelligence” or “self-awareness.” I don’t care what you call it, if you’re not balanced and grounded, sooner or later the market will amplify your worst character defect, and it will cost you and perhaps your clients a lot of money.

The Sequential Certificate Program in Commodities Studies at UCLA will highlight everything you need to learn in becoming a successful trader, both technically, as well as psychologically.

I have coached and trained thousands of students over the last 11 years through UCLA Extension and the CFA Institute, and have been continuously trading over that period of time. I have lectured around the world and share my thoughts with the public through my blogs – MartinKronicle, the Ludwig von Mises Institute, and the Huffington Post. None are premium sites – they are all open to the public.

Of all the techniques of trading, of all the indicators, and of all the “market pundits” none is more important than keeping your losses small. That means you’ll have to subvert your ego – especially if you’re used to getting A’s in school. Staying in a losing position “waiting until it comes back” is a loser’s way of trading.

I hope you garner a lot from the insights in my eBook. Also, I’ve included a link to the podcast interview that I did with Jim Rogers. Regardless of whether you are a rookie or a seasoned trader, you will always walk away knowing more by listening closely to Jim.

Please tell your friends and associates about the courses. When I started out, it was impossible to find someone to help, teach, or mentor. I’ve been extremely lucky in that I’ve become friends and partners with several legendary traders – some of them Market Wizards – and I’m detailing all the lessons I’ve learned from them over the years. My teaching is a way to give back to the community and to take on what I call “intellectual greed.”

We need more traders in the community and I encourage you to soak up as much as you can from my site.

Thank you and good luck.

My mentor and I speak about Gold, commodity bubbles, Bernanke, Geithner, and I get him to answer a reader question about Market Timing.

Jeremy Siegel is still talking his book, literally.

Victor Sperandeo: Ben Bernanke never owned a future contract in his life. He might own a mutual fund, but my guess is he doesn’t know what’s in it.

Podcast with Daniel Amman.
